Soil and Water Conservation meeting slated  (published April 8, 2009)
Using comments received from the public during a recent Locally Led Conservation Meeting, the LaSalle and Catahoula Soil and Water Conservation Districts will be planning conservation efforts for the coming year. Along with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Catahoula District held a Locally Led Conservation Meeting on February 10, 2009 where the public was given the opportunity to provide the district and the NRCS concerns that the community has regarding natural resources and conservation of those resources.
Those concerns, comments, suggestions and ideas presented by the public will now be weighed by the district during a Locally Led Work Group Meeting to be held on April 22, 2009 at the USDA Service Center at Jonesville at 9:00 a. m. The meeting is open to the public. However comments from the public will not be taken during this meeting. Instead, conservation partners, including state and federal agencies, will be assisting the district in prioritizing conservation o bjectives.
Cooperative conservation starts first with the active involvement of the individual community member who helps to identify the resource needs of the community. Community involvement helps local Soil and Water Conservation Districts, NRCS, and other conservation partners assess and prioritize resource concerns on a community level. Local natural resource priorities help direct technical and financial assistance decisions that NRCS and SWCD make throughout the year.
